He Took Her Away From Me - Crimson Shadows Promo by kokorohane He Took Her Away From Me - Crimson Shadows Promo by kokorohane
"My own father took my mother AWAY from me!"

Satomi Hiroyama, from my ongoing manga Crimson Shadows. This is a promotional art for the episodic Kinetic novel adaption I plan on developing (because the story will advance more in this format than in manga, since it takes more time for manga...at least for me).

For those of you who follow the manga, you probably know what scene this is illustrating.
Never read the manga? You can do so here; [link] (a 9-page update is on the way!)

You have NO IDEA how frustrating coloring this was! Only because when I scanned it in, there were SO MANY broken lines, I had to repair them in order to properly use the bucket tool. After that, using gradients and smudge were very easy to complete the image, and in the end I was happy with how it turned out! But man...this must of taken me at least an hour >.<

Be on the look out for more promotional art, featuring the other characters, coming soon!

Drawn and inked traditionally.
Colored digitally with GIMP.

I used to color scanned artwork using GIMP, it's a huge pain. I'm assuming you don't have a tablet? A little trick I used to use was the "graphic novel" FX that is part of the G'MIC extension set. If I played with the settings, and then followed up with the contrast adjustment, I could usually get the contrast high enough that most of the "debris" either disappeared, or could easily be selected and deleted.

Might be worth a try.

The only reason that made this one so frustrating to color on GIMP is I scanned directly into my flashdrive, so I had to make the lines stronger with Contrast. Usually I scan it with the Advanced option, which makes most of the lines solid (any gaps is usually due to me missing a spot) but that day it wasn't loading XD But thanks for the advice! I shall keep that in mind~
